“I want to share with you how impactful this class has been for me. I was on the skeptical side when the details for this class went out. “5 hours of engineering I can’t replace!” and other whining. I’m so happy to be proven wrong. This knowledge is exactly what I’ve been searching for! For so long, I’ve had no trouble with my identity and goals – because circumstances dictated a certain level of that for me. I spent years being pulled towards a goal of professional licensure, while be pushed from behind by inescapable student loan debt. There was no need to ask myself hard questions, as there was plenty of work to simply grind out. Well grind I did – eventually passing my exam, getting my license, and paying off my student loans.

That felt incredible for a few months, before the inevitable realization: “Great!! …. Now what?”

I started this year off by asking myself “Who do I really want to be?” and “What do I want to do with my life?”, leading to me writing down every dream or goal I could think of – from the mundane to the lifetime achievements. I think this started me on the path towards what we have learned is a critical part of being a leader – becoming inwardly sound. Being in this class feels like I finally have a map of the trails I’ve been wandering around. The questions “Do people matter to you?” and “Who do you matter to? Why” have been bouncing around my head ever since they came up in class. The questions posed and the exercises we have been assigned have been difficult ones, but the resulting opportunity for growth is so exciting. I am grateful for the opportunity to be included.
